Black Annex - A game in QB64
« on: April 02, 2013, 02:20:04 am »
I'd like to finally, formally introduce you all to a game I've spent the last year of my life building from scratch in QBASIC.

I hope you enjoy a little trailer I put together :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqlveWIhCFI

It's come a long time since the last time I posted here, and I'd be happy to talk about the development process with you guys.
You can see the entire development progress from day 1 over at http://www.manfightdragon.com/

Excellent.

Hands down the best game I've seen created in basic.

I'd love to see the code! So many great little engines working seemlessly together!

Seriously, you should be proud  8)

Cheers,

Haha, you don't wanna see the code. It's 12000 lines of insanity. It's literally one massive .BAS file with about 100 functions.

I'm sure it's organised chaos.   ;D

Well, if you do post the code, I for one will definately be checking it out!

It's all polish. I spent 3 years working on a first person shooter with a focus on content, and nobody cares about it. I go onto YouTube and see people saying great things about your game. Even in this thread, it's all positive. Consider this some negative feedback.

Hi all,
Very impressive! Unusual looking , a bit like robbing banks to me. Good artwork and i like ISO. Good special effects make all the movement by the "actors" very interesting to me. I'd love to see the source code and how you did all of this. As for fluffrabbit im not the type to air my sour grapes in someone else's triumph. I really am sad that you game hasent generated the interest that this one has fluffrabbit. That said lets move on to congratulating Klangaroo on a really good effort.
I assume this will be freeware Klangaroo?

Hi all,
Oki , so what ball park figure are you considering to sell this for and does the source code come with the sale?

I'm not in a position to set the pricing myself, unfortunately. I'm just making a game.

The source code will probably never be released, it's a huge mess, you wouldn't even be able to make sense of it.

    Ok

Id be very interested in the pathfinding part of the code. As for it being a mess , thats not a problem to me.

It uses this pathfinding algorithm (I ported it to QBASIC)

Hi all,
Would it be possible to release or write a new implementation of this algo with a brief example map for mine and the community's sake? I'd be eternally gratefull for the gift.

I'm not really sure, you could probably just follow the steps on that Wiki article. That's all I did.
