Ideas needed...please help...
« on: September 16, 2011, 01:21:10 PM »
Hey gang i am in need of some suggestions if you have a few minites. What would you do to make this into a game?

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8822351/HotAir.rar

Controls : Press up to burn, down to decelerate at double speed.

I was thinking to make the wind speed change depending on how high you are and have a few obstacles to avoid (tree's, telegraph poles, small planes, etc) but this just feels a little "it's been done before" and un-original.

Any ideas would be great as i am stuck,

Thanks,

John

That's pretty cute! You could make all kinds of things to navigate through like caves etc.

You can have items to get more fuel and prizes...

A bit faster drop might work better...

Drop speed increased, makes it harder to stay afloat instantly! Nice one clippy.

Dented, i can post a .zip if that will work? Or i can post code and the image seperatley if not.

I like the caves idea too, i think i could do that with my tile engine so i will investigate a simple design. Thanks,

John

Get 7 ZIP and it can open them all!

Unseen, how about side rockets to move right and left with them. Also you should make a POP sprite for when the balloon hits something. Then just show the cage falling! LOL

I am bad at graphics (the balloon was made from someone elses sprite) but it's a nice idea so i will give it a shot when i have some more gameplay done.

then scenery below as it passes over,..you could give it "bombs" it can drop, and have enemys on the ground that shoot at it, if they hit it pops,..
You could also have prisinors, you try to rescue,..drop down and pick them up,..There is a lot you could do with this, if you stick with it,...

I know I am the worlds worst for posting my half crocked ideas on here but here is some ideas for a game based on what is seen and comments you made.

you say you are terible with graphics, I say borrow some a screen shot grabber will snatch some content and if nothing else give you a template for drawing more..

a few ideas for use of balloon type vehicles in games, cartoon characters like chip-n-dales resque rangers wierd balloon bound ships with steam driven propellors also seen in the movie "the mummie" 2 i think and the littles character"dinky" flew a airplane made of a ruler paperclips a propeller from two plastic spoons and rubberbands/tape..

I would think a adventure game using any of these characters to be of intrest to the genorations who watched the cartoons and if your lucky might get picked up by disney as a backer..

still yet there is the online games like bejeweled and land the paratrooper, that you could use this in some points collecting game where you fly through a obstacle corse to collect a score.
I love the over all idea and offering Unseen, Kudos man! and thanks for sharing it..

I agree with Clippy here about caves. And I would love to be able to steer left and right a bit. Maybe experiment with that.

How I imagine it (or would love to see it happpen), it could be a continuous (maybe with save points) constant movement adventure where you travel through sinister, atmospheric setting, like starting over a village at night, day comes, you enter the mountains, then the cave, etc...

The idea of a meditative, a bit dark, continuous game is lingering in my mind for some reason.

Seriously, thanks for the feedback, it's great.  :-*

I think i remember R-Type having caves, they would look cool, maybe moving through a volcano where lava flows fall, jets of steam rise (and rocks can drop to maybe...) would add a next level over a mountian...

Landing to refuel and checkpoints (at which you could get upgrades (better burner, extra lives, etc)) would also add a simple basic gameplay element that could be repeated over and over without becoming boring.

Keep the ideas coming, they all help and again, thanks, for now i am gonna convert the code to be able to play multiple levels.

could you decend down a hidden volcanno into a chamber bellow and it be riddled with many caves to explore.
Ifso some caves could turn out to be just dead ends and require a trecherous journey back to the main cahamber and if some of the caves end in say a balcony to exit the balloon the character could then adventure on foot to say flip some switch changing the blockages in the caves of the main cavern kinda like the zelda puzzles. so when the player returns to the balloon he could now navigate cave he couldnt before.

at some point the character should be seperated from his balloon and be forced to navigate the terain on foot to find it too.
so there you have three plots to work with, finding the vocanno, exploring it,escaping it.

could make for a realy large project and a "neat-o" adventure game..
